Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Home IUI

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a laboratory procedure where fast moving sperms are separated from sluggish or non moving sperms. The fast moving sperms are then placed into the womb around the time of ovulation. IUI can be performed with or without fertility drugs depending upon what treatment might be suitable for you.

IUI can be done with partner’s sperms or donor sperms (if your partner is unable to provide sperms, you may want to consider using donated sperms).
The Infertility specialists very carefully place the sperms inside the uterus of a woman and that is what increases the probability of fertilization of the oocyte.

The target of this process is to help the sperms reach upto the fallopian tubes where the oocyte enters ,thereby, decreasing the distance between the sperms & the oocyte, and hence, improving chances of conception. However, the sperm needs to reach and fertilise the egg on its own.

IUI cannot be performed in case the patient has… :
  • Damaged and blocked fallopian tubes.
  • Pelvic infections (Acute).
  • Women suffering from severe endometriosis.
